Canada Deaf Soccer Tryout

When: One weekend in April
Where: Somewhere in Lower Mainland (BC)
Time: TBA
For whom: For all BC, Alberta & Saskatchewan players
What for: Tryout for Deaflympics, Taipei, 2009 (And Perhaps for the upcoming 1st World Deaf Soccer Championship in Greece - July 2008)

If you are interested in going to the tryout, I suggest you to read the "eligibility audiogram rule" below grey box before you email Simon Patterson.  If we can get enough players, we will give it a go and the Head Coach, Jason Whiting, from Ontario will come here!

Eligibility (from www.Deaflympic.com)
The Summer and Winter Deaflympics bring together deaf athletes of all (link to) affiliated National Associations. Participants in the Deaflympics must be:
Deaf, defined as a hearing loss of at least 55 dB per tone average in the better ear (3-tone frequency average at 500, 1000 and 2000 Hertz, ISO 1969 Standard)
Members of an affiliated National Deaf Sports Federation and citizens of that country.

There is no general age limit for competitors. However, age restrictions may apply for specific sports or events as stated in the relevant International Sports Federations' regulations.

Audiogram form must be sent to your National Deaf Sport Federation for their review and they will submit the form to ICSD home office.

History Book
Jo-Anne Robinson, researcher/author, is currently working on ADSA’s history book, titled, “The History of Deaf Sports in Alberta”, which will be a 100-page book. The projected publication date is the year of 2007. The author will be highly appreciated if you could share old photos, stories, and/or results with her. The photos will be scanned and returned to you safely.

Youth
The next Pan Am Games for the Deaf Youth is held every two years in a host city located in either North America or South America, typically during the month of August. The next biannual event will take place in the USA in the month of August 2006.

Please refer to the list of available sports in the PDF document and further information will be added to or updated in the document in the near future.

If you have any further questions about the trip arrangement, parental involvement, or athletic development, please do not hesitate to contact ADSA.

Deaf Sports
ADSA is affiliated with the Canadian Deaf Sports Association and would like to develop other deaf sports organization within ADSA. Currently, we have 4 organizations: Alberta Deaf Bowling Association (ADBA), Alberta Deaf Curling Association (ADCA), Alberta Deaf Dart Association (ADDA) and Alberta Deaf Golf Club (ADGC).

CDSA is affiliated with the CISS (Comité International des Sports des Sourds - The International Committee of Sports for the Deaf). Under the direction of CISS, the new Deaflympics website is up and running: www.deaflympics.com.

Here is the list of available sports for Deaflympics. These disciplines are strongly encouraged in the province of Alberta:
